RNCM International Brass Band Festival 2024 - Cory Band

Cory Band is 140 years old in 2024, and to celebrate the anniversary, the band opened their concert at the 2024 RNCM International Brass Band Festival with the world premiere of Soaring the Heights by Christopher Bond, the band's Composer-in-Residence.  Glyn Williams is the soloist in Philip Harper's own Euphonium Concerto which is a musical portrayal of a soldier in World War I.  Another world premiere follows, Dance 1 (Macedonian) by Mihailo Trandafilovski.  We then hear a very personal piece by Dorothy Gates The Living God, which precedes Other Lives by Oliver Waespi.  To conclude the concert, the band's centenary commission from Philip Sparke is revived, The Year of the Dragon.  This concert was filmed at the RNCM Concert Hall on Sunday 28 January 2024.
